Denis A. Roy, MD Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Public Health Care
Dr. Denis Roy has been selected as a VIP member for 2011-2012
MONTREAL, QC, CANADA, September 09, 2011 /Science and Research PR News/ -- Dr. Denis A. Roy, Vice President of Scientific Affairs for Institut National de Sante Publique du Quebec, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in public health care.
Living by the mantra "think globally, act locally," Dr. Roy has served the field of public health for 25 years. Currently, he serves as the vice president of scientific affairs for Institut National de Sante Publique du Quebec and is responsible for supervising 800 scientists. In addition, he advises policy makers and promotes environmental and health development. Previously, Dr. Roy worked in three other executive positions: as director of information and knowledge management at Agence de la Sante et des Services Sociaux de la Monteregie, director of the Centre de Coordination de la Lutte Contre le Cancer du Quebec, and chief of planning and acting director of public health at Montreal Regional Board of Health and Social Services. Additionally, Dr. Roy works as an associate professor at the Universite de Montreal and Universite de Sherbrooke and as a research associate at Centre de Recherche de l'Hôpital Charles LeMoyne. The proud co-author of a 2010 book on health networks, he is also a singer, songwriter and member of the folk-rock band Passion Molière.
Dr. Roy holds an MD from Laval University. In addition, he earned a Master of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science at McGill University. A fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, he has been honored with numerous awards, including the Commonwealth Fund Harkness Associate Award and an Excellence Award by the Quebec Association of Community Health Physicians. Furthermore, he is the only Canadian to have twice received the Canadian Foundation for Health Services Research Award, which he obtained due to his outstanding work in Montreal and Monteregie. Dr. Roy is an international member of Conseil Scientifique III de l'Institut National de Prevention et D'education pour la Sante and president of Bureau de Direction de L'Initiative Sur le Partage des Connaissances et le Developpement des Competences, a broad-based capacity buildinmg initiative aimed at health system improvement.
