Extraordinary Educator Joins The Class Of Stanford Who's Who
Stanford Who's Who welcomes Professor Alain Pignolet to the ranks of leading professionals as a result of his exceptional effort in the Education Industry.
VARENNES, QC, CANADA, December 18, 2010 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Stanford Who's Who welcomes Professor Alain Pignolet to the ranks of leading professionals as a result of his exceptional effort in the Education Industry. As a Research Professor for the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique at the University of Quebec, Professor Pignolet has consistently demonstrated the vision, dedication and diligence necessary to be considered among the best.
Professor Pignolet possesses extraordinary expertise in thin film deposition by physical vapor deposition techniques, in micro fabrication as well as in materials characterization. His specific topic of research is in the epitaxial growth of ultra-thin films and nanostructures of ferroelectric and multiferroic oxides and the study of their global and local properties. He is also quite interested in the ultra-local characterization of the polar properties of materials, using a scanning probe microscopy (SPM) technique, called "Piezoresponse Force Microscopy."
Alain specializes in the supervising, training and coaching of graduate students in their highly competitive research projects. He earned a PhD from École Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland in 1992. Alain worked at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center, NY, at the Materials Research Laboratory, Penn State, PA, at the Max Planck Institute for Microstructural Physics, Halle/Saale, Germany before joining the Center for Energy Materials and Telecommunication Sciences at INRS. During his career, he has set up several research labs and groups.
Alain is a Chartered Physicist member of UK's Institute of Physics (IOP), member of the European Physical Society (EPS) and of the German Physical Society (DPG), as well as a member of the Materials Research Society (MRS), American Physical Society (APS) and American Vacuum Society (AVS), and the IEEE-UFFC.
