Amber Elaine Cochran Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who

Amber Cochran, MPH, works in a biosafety level-three laboratory

    AUGUSTA, GA, December 1, 2010 /Science and Research PR News/ -- Amber E. Cochran, Medical Technologist for the United States Department of Defense at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in health care.

With five years of professional experience, including three years of experience as a medical technologist at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ms. Cochran has developed an expertise in microbiology. On a daily basis, she works in the virology laboratory, which has a biosafety level-three rating. There, she examines respiratory viruses and sexually transmittable diseases, and conducts infectious disease serology and bacteriology. Utilizing the available instruments, she identifies viruses from patient samples through manual testing.

Ms. Cochran became involved in her profession through her fascination with science, especially laboratory work. In her last year as an undergraduate, she talked to her counselor about a career in this field; her counselor recommended the United States Army.

Pursuing a Ph.D. in public health, Ms. Cochran earned a Master of Public Health from Walden University in 2009. Prior to this, she graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in medical technology. Certified in phlebotomy, she is a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American Public Health Association. Currently, she is studying for the specialist in microbiology examination through the American Society for Clinical Pathology. A volunteer at her local fire department, Ms. Cochran spends her spare time reading at the local children's shelter and participating in various humanitarian relief missions. Her goal is to hold a supervisor position in microbiology.
