Elaine F. Mostafa, DVM, Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Veterinary Epidemiology

Elaine F. Mostafa Aspires to Share her Expertise with Nations in Need Such as Bangladesh

BATON ROUGE, LA, November 24, 2010 /Science and Research PR News/ -- Elaine F. Mostafa, DVM, Veterinary Intern at Louisiana State University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in veterinary epidemiology.

Dr. Elaine F. Mostafa's areas of interest include public health, veterinary epidemiology, and foreign animal disease surveillance and control. She has worked with the USDA's national surveillance unit studying veterinary epidemiology in action including learning how to collect, review, and analyze data and the proper testing procedures for various animal diseases of national concern. She also learned how decisions are made as to the appropriate actions during a disease outbreak, as well as how national policy and procedures are determined and implemented concerning animal health and safety.

Dr. Mostafa became involved in her profession through a life-long interest in animals and their health and well-being, through her travels and experiences as a student, and her desire to use veterinary medicine as a way to help people. She has a willingness to work hard in a variety of settings - she yearns to view veterinary medicine from not only the ground up, but also on a global level. She has worked with goat farmers in Bangladesh, providing them with information concerning proper care for their animals as well as gathering information to better understand their current methods, needs, and concerns so as to build a foundation for future collaborative work with farmers in developing countries. She aspires to provide farmers with the tools and resources necessary to be more successful in raising healthy animals, thus contributing to food safety and security in developing nations.

Dr. Mostafa received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida Atlantic University. She is a member of the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners and a supporter of organizations such as Heifer International and the World Wildlife Fund.
