A product of the University of North Dakota, Dr. Lockhart received his MD in 1996. He is a fellow of both the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and is a member of the American Society of Hematology. He names the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles as his favorite charity. His goals for the future include continuing his research work.
