Timothy P. Powers Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who Executive, Professional and Entrepreneurial Registry
He was honored with the Director Award by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and with the Brookhaven Award, from Brookhaven National Laboratory.
OAK RIDGE, TN, September 27, 2008 /Science and Research PR News/ -- Timothy P. Powers, Director of The Non-Reactor Nuclear Facilities Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of nuclear facilities management.
With over 28 years of professional experience, four of which have been in his current position, Mr. Powers specializes in nuclear facilities management. As director of non-reactor nuclear facilities, he is responsible for overseeing operations at six nuclear facilities and three high risk radiological facilities. These facilities are used to study the material condition of irradiated metal, perform chemical separations of radioactive materials, and perform research related to spent nuclear fuel recycling and re-use. Prior to taking on his current position, he was at Brookhaven National Laboratory operating the High Flux Beam and Medical Research Reactors. Prior to that Mr. Powers worked for seven years in the commercial nuclear industry receiving a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Senior Reactor Operator's license in 1989. Mr. Powers also spent six years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the fast attack submarine USS Groton (SSN-694) for over four years. He was honored with the Director Award by Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2006 and with the Brookhaven Award, from Brookhaven National Laboratory, in 1996. Mr. Powers maintains a consistent level of success due to his education and focus on his goals.
A graduate of Stony Brook University, Mr. Powers received his Master's Degree in Industrial Management. He is a certified project manager through the Project Management Institute, a certified nuclear reactor supervisor through the U.S. Department of Energy and a licensed senior reactor operator through the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He is affiliated with the American Society of Nuclear Engineers and volunteers with the Knights of Columbus and youth sports programs. He aspires to become a department director in the future.
