Porous Materials, Inc. to host its second Short Course of 2007
Porous Materials, Inc. will host its second Short Course of 2007, bringing together experts in the field of porosity characterization for discussions, demonstrations and lectures.
/Science and Research PR News/ - ITHACA, NY, August 22, 2007 - Porous Materials, Inc. is proud to announce the PMI Short Course on "Advanced Techniques for Pore Structure Characterization Theory & Practice" scheduled to take place during the week of October 9th - 11th, 2007. Experts in the field of Porosity characterization will discuss the wide spectrum of pore structures exhibited by porous materials. The basic scientific principles of the pore structure characterization techniques, derivations of important relations, methods for data acquisition and stability will be presented. Advances in instrumentation, design and integration dedicated to optimize reliability and reprodcutability with PMI instruments will also be considered. The sources of random, systematic and machine errors in the data will be examined.
Recently developed techniques to be reviewed included emerging technologies and recently developed characterization techniques. The following techniques for characterization will be emphasized:
* in-plane porosity
* porosity of layered and coated materials
* compression effects
* effects of cyclic compression
* envelope surface area
* average fiber or particle diameter
* vapor transmission
* permeability of chemicals
Significance of measurements, critical assessment of characterization, selection of techniques and interpretation of anomalous results often encountered with many samples will be critically analyzed.
Guest speakers will relate their experiences with porosity measurements using different instruments and materials, and discuss resulting benefits found. Extensive discussion will provided an opportunity to share thoughts and experiences. The attendees will visit PMI's laboratory, work with PMI instruments and gain "hands-on" experience by testing samples of various materials.
The short course brings together technical specialists from industries, research laboratories and universities. If you were unable to participate in the past, make plans to attend any of our future short course offerings. Registration can be done three different ways: over the phone, online at our website, or by filling out a downloadable form which can also be found on our website.
We also offer attendees a variety of sight-seeing choices, such as a wine tasting tour of some of our areas extraordinary wineries, a tour of some of their beautiful local water falls (one of the main attractions here in Ithaca), and a walking tour of the Cornell University campus, one of the premier Ivy League schools in the country.
